Largo, MD (March 16, 2017) – Recently, Advertising Age Magazine announced that “Bottled water had surpassed carbonated soft-drinks in 2016 to become the largest beverage category by volume” with regard to consumption by Americans. Drink Life Beverages, Inc., the nation’s only beverage company owned and operated by an African American woman, seeks to capitalize on this growing trend that has been fueled by an increasing level of health-awareness on the part of beverage consumers nationwide.

Headquartered in Prince George’s County Maryland, specifically, Drink Life processes, bottles and distributes alkaline water, considered to be the “healthiest” of all water products currently on the market today. “Not all water is created equal,” says Drink Life CEO, Ronda Jackson. “There is a direct correlation between the body’s acidic levels and poor digestion, energy levels, skin disorders, weight problems, premature aging, osteoporosis and even cancer. Alkaline water is less acidic than normal, or tap, drinking water.”

Drink Life alkaline water is drinking water drawn from natural springs that has undergone a process known as “ionization.”  This process segregates the acid and alkaline content found in water (H2O) and still maintains the liquid’s natural minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.  The “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH (potential of hydrogen) level, a scientific scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of a fluid. Fluids with a pH less than 7 are acidic and fluids with a pH levels greater than 7 are basic. Pure water is neutral, at pH 7, being neither an acid nor a base.

From a health perspective, the more acidity in one’s body, the more likelihood of conditions existing such as diminished energy, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, kidney stones and cancer. Adds Ms. Jackson, “Because of its properties, alkaline water, with pH levels of 7 and greater, can often neutralize the acid in one’s own body.  It can provide super hydration as well as having anti-aging and anti-disease properties.”

From a business perspective, founded in 2015 by Ms. Jackson, a healthcare professional, Drink Life is now seeking to make major inroads into the bottled water market nationwide, specializing in alkaline water. According to a February report in Beverage Digest, “It’s projected that bottled water volume consumption would surpass carbonated soft drinks in 2017…Changing dynamics have reshaped beverage marketing.”

“Through a variety of marketing tactics, utilizing basic, time-proven elements as well as significant digital platform efforts, we are looking to make our mark in the bottled water industry with our own alkaline water brand,” says Ms. Jackson. “We are truly confident that we have the water that health conscious consumers will want to drink.”

Alkaline water is not new to beverage consumers. Many health-conscious celebrities and athletes have long found the properties of alkaline water to be beneficial to their performance and looks. These celebrities include Jay Z, Beyonce’, Demi Moore, Jennifer Lopez, Carlos Santana, Brad Pitt, Janet Jackson, Magic Johnson, and Sylvester Stallone, to name but a few.
